Treatment Specialists

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a healing science that emphasizes the importance of maintaining the structural integrity of the body. Chiropractic is a conservative method of health care that does not utilize drugs or surgery. Chiropractic takes into account all aspects of the patient's life: family history, work, stress level, lifestyle, environment, diet, exercise habits and deals with treating the cause of the problem rather than just the symptoms.

Massage

Massage has the potential to relax the mind and body, invigorate and stimulate as well. Massage therapy treats the whole person, inside and out. Because of this, massage is the ultimate balancer, bringing peace to the frazzled mind and relief to a hurting body.

Myofascial Release is a whole body approach used for the relief of persons experiencing chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain.

Accupuncture

Accupuncture is the insertion of various needles into points on the body. These points are located and join together in 'channels' or 'meridians', along which Qi flows. The points used in treatment are carefully chosen to disperse any blockages and to bring the patient's Qi into balance.

Physiatrist

Physiatrists are doctors who are certified as specialists in rehabilitation medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The area of medicine they practice is called "physiatry."

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) was born in 1946 in response to the challenge to help disabled citizens reach their maximum potential. What is so special about these specialists? After completing medical school and obtaining an MD or DO degree, they study four more years and take two extra examinations, one written and one oral. The purpose of this extra training is to make sure that physiatrists are focused on the patient as a whole person.

The physiatrist often coordinates a team of other doctors and health professionals in developing and carrying out a comprehensive rehabilitation plan which extends beyond hospital walls into the patient's family, community, occupation, friends, and ultimate life style. This rehabilitation team may include physical, occupational, and/or speech therapies, nurses and doctors from various specialties, including neurology and orthopedics, psychologists, counselors or social workers, rehabilitation engineers and others.

Physical Therapists

Physical therapists are experts trained in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction. There are trained specifically to improve movement and function, relieve pain, and expand movement potential. Physical therapy is often the treatment of choice in situation where pain impairs function, and recovering from an injury or surgery, and in recovering from a disease process or illness. Physical therapists also teach adaptive and physical coping skills in dealing with impaired function from a disease, injury, or illness.

Orthopedist

A medical specialty concerned with the preservation and restoration of function of the skeletal system and its associated structures, i.e., spinal and other bones, joints, and muscles.

Neurologist

A physician skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of disease of the nervous system.
